In the spring and summer I am constantly in flip flops. There’s always a pair by the front door that I can slip on in a hurry so I can accompany my little ones to the park or jet to the grocery store. I know there’s no support in them, but it’s hard to find casual summer shoes that are fashionable and offer proper support for your feet. To make matters worse, my cats like to chew on the flat, foamy soles. Gross, right? In the past I’ve had knee pain due to something they call “over pronation.” What that means is, in my case, I should be wearing orthotic inserts in all of my shoes all... (Read More ...)
Much is being said today, in both social and high school circles, of so-called Tiger Moms and overprotective (or helicopter) parents; my wife and I were the very antithesis of all that. As parents we were both underwhelming in our need to regulate and direct our children’s academic aspirations. Yet we managed to help three daughters make their way to graduate schools at Harvard, Brown, NYU (Tisch) and USF Law School and a fourth to an undergraduate degree at UC Santa Barbara. Here’s how we did it. First of all some background: it helps to have education in the blood. D. H. Lawrence... (Read More ...)
Have you ever noticed that most Hollywood love stories end with the lead couple finally “getting together”? You’re supposed to assume that they live “happily ever after,” but the audience is rarely shown what happens after that first blissful kiss. And there’s a good reason for that. The truth is, if you really want to live happily ever after, you must put daily thought and yes-work!-into your relationship with your spouse. “I... (Read More ...)
If your baby is anything like my son, then he or she will put anything into his or her mouth, and when I say anything, I mean ANYTHING! Since my son started teething, I catch him putting all kinds of things in his mouth. Strange things, too, like the dog’s squeaker (yuck!), drawer knobs, the wooden floor molding, and occasionally his pacifier! As a product reviewer for Chic Mom Magazine, I recently had the opportunity to review the Smart Mom’s Teething Bling® pendant. The necklace is chewable! A teething-ring that you can wear around your neck that doubles as fashionable jewelry –... (Read More ...)
When I think of Australian Gold products my mind drifts back to my first job in high school. I worked at a fitness club that had tanning beds and there was a huge display of Australian Gold products that were always the victim of little kids running through the lobby. I spent many hours rearranging that display so the little koala bear in their logo will always remain a familiar face. I received a sample of their new orange mint flavored lip balm in the mail last week and have been using it daily, especially since the change in weather is making my skin extra dry. I love this lip balm –... (Read More ...)
